Using leftover colored stickers, turn an egg carton into a color sorting game. We had leftover heart stickers from preparing Valentine’s, but you can use any colorful stickers.

We have done so many sticker activities on the blog! There are sticker letter games, sticker sorting games, and even stickers for learning to write numbers.

Kids love stickers. They make a great art project, rainy day activity and for this game, a color sorting game.

Sticker Sorting Activity to Learn Colors

Supplies:

  • Colorful stickers
  • Egg carton

I cut an egg carton in half so we could use 6 egg cups-since the stickers came in 6 colors.

To prep this sticker sorting activity, I peeled off the back of each of 6 stickers. Then I placed one in each egg cup as shown.

Egg carton cut in half. One colored sticker is stuck in the bottom of each egg cup. Green in one, purple in the other, and so on until there is one sticker in each cup, but all are different colors.

Then, I set the remaining stickers in a pile. The challenge of the activity is to place each sticker where it matches in the egg carton.

Egg carton sticker and color sorting activity set up on a table with prepared egg carton with stickers and a pile of stickers to use as sorting pieces.

My toddler picked up a sticker, we named the color. Then, she placed the sticker in the cup for its matching color. Simple as that.

This activity is not actually sticking stickers. Just sorting them into colors. It makes a great learning centers activity for preschool time at home. It is also a great table activity for an indoor play day.

If you don’t have foam stickers, you can use foam shapes or cut out simple shapes from construction paper. I store the egg carton and stickers in a zip top bag. We store all our preschool learning games in an organizer like this. That way the games can be used over and over again.

Color sorting is a beginning math activity that even toddlers can do.
