DIY Toy People

Make DIY toy people with these ideas as a preschool art project and add them to pretend play.

DIY Toy People with Blocks

I noticed that my son did not have a lot of little toy people to play with while he was pretending one day. We have a few cylinder blocks in a set. We never use them when we build. I thought we could turn them into little DIY toy people. They were so cute and easy to make. It was a preschool art project for him. We made them together.

If you don’t have wooden cylindrical blocks at home, you can use pieces of wood dowel or even a few square blocks glued together. You can even make DIY toy people out of toilet paper tubes.

These are the quick steps we used to turn this into a preschool art project and DIY toy for our home collection.

How to make DIY Toy People

Make DIY toy people with these ideas as a preschool art project.

1) Paint the blocks (if desired), and let them dry.

2) Draw a face, hands, and arms on the people.

We added a little piece of ribbon glued around the bottom of each one. I did this step, but feel free to let your child create.

3) I cut some lengths of yarn and made hair. Using white craft glue I simply wound a length of yarn around the tops of the blocks for some. I cut small pieces for the smaller blocks.

Add the DIY toy people to your pretend play with blocks or lego bricks. These even fit in the small play houses or doll houses. They are a great size for travel too!
