Back to School Fun for Toddlers

Make back to school time fun for toddlers so they get excited about learning too! Tot school activity ideas included.

I know, toddlers don’t really go to “school”. Back to school fun for toddlers means they play and learn, and interact with mom and dad to learn life lessons. Toddlers are able to soak up so much learning! They get excited to explore new activities and places. That aspect of toddlerhood makes the temper tantrums a little easier to deal with….maybe.

Since my older two went “back to school” to their homeschool hybrid program, they are not at home with us 3 days of the week. We homeschool two days a week with the older two, so I wanted to celebrate this opportunity for my toddlers to get their own back to school experience-with mom at home!

Tot school is a fancy way of saying “mom is doing activities with their toddler at home”. There is not a need for this to be very structured. In fact, you can do fun little things to help your toddler feel special if they have older siblings who are at school during the day.

I try to do at least one learning activity with my toddlers each day. That does not mean we sit down and do a lengthy and complicated fancy crafty project. I have many of the learning games I created for my older two children when they were toddlers still stored in a bin. It is now labeled with the twins’ names and they are enjoying exploring the toddler activities we do at home to get them interested in learning.

After dropping off the older kids at school, I wanted to celebrate that the twins and I now had our school time together.

One of the first academic skills a toddler learns is to identify their own name. It is fun to start learning about the alphabet with toddler activities that explore their name.

I sing the name song starting when my kids are infants. Often they can sing along from time to time even before they are toddlers. That is so fun!

I started with the toddlers’ names to celebrate them and allow them to explore early reading skills.

Back to school can be fun for toddlers too! We celebrated the toddlers time with mom at home by clebrating them with a few fun personalized gifts and activities to spark their interest in learning.

Fun for Toddlers: Tot School Celebration

I presented my toddler twins with personalized lunch boxes and stickers with their names. What do little kids love more than stickers?

The lunch boxes and stickers are from I See Me! Which has a huge array of personalized back to school products for kids from school age to preschool and even toddlers.

The personalized lunch boxes from I See Me! Were a big hit with the twins. They each loved the images on the front, and I was surprised by the fun little chalk board on the inside.

How great is this idea for writing notes to your school age child if they are away all day at school? What a great way to stay connected and encourage your child with a little lunch box chalkboard.

Next, I showed the twins their personalized name stickers. There are a variety of sizes and images that are full color and very high quality.

Being a bit Type A, I was hoping the twins would let me help them put the stickers in a few places. My toddlers have their own minds, so they wanted to stick them and remove them from paper, their shirts and even their little backpacks.

When we were shopping for back to school supplies for my older two kids, I bought the twins each their own folder. I wanted them to get excited about having something that was their own.

I brought out those folders and tried to encourage the twins to put one of their name stickers on their folders.

I love the bigger personalized stickers for this! They would be great for labeling notebooks or binders if your child has to label items in their back to school supplies.

Of course being toddlers, the twins needed my help removing the stickers from the paper. They enjoyed placing them on paper.

It was a fun learning activity for teaching toddlers their name. We will be doing some other toddler name activities in the coming weeks to keep learning.

Life is busy! Life is busy-for sure-with toddlers in the house.

I See Me! Personalized gifts for kids are a fun way to infuse learning easily. The personalized children’s books they offer are very durable and wonderful teaching resources for young ones. We love our personalized storybooks from I See Me!
