Make your own fossil

I set up my phone so my son could view the video-based instructions. You can also just read the step-by-step instructions to your child. The video instructions have an auto-pause feature that is nice for completing the steps one at a time.

Older kids could have the job of guide while the younger ones follow the steps of the experiment. We made sure all of our materials were out and ready. Then, each item could be reached when it was needed.

At one point, the fossil needed time to dry. It was a good time to pause and take a break.

My son enjoyed being able to compete the experiment all on his own. It gave him a chance to learn at his own pace. Plus, in a household of four children, solo activities are rare. It was time very much enjoyed.
