My first manger scene was a little ornament, I was five years old. I remember holding this fragile manger made of straw and plastic in the palm of my hand. Being a little girl in love with baby dolls, I marveled at baby Jesus resting in such peace with Mary and Joseph. I noticed how Mary and Joseph adored their newborn.

I sensed that something was special, very special, even the barnyard animals stood in indescribable reverence. I was overwhelmed with awe at this true gift of Christmas.

It was in that moment that I became aware that holiness was alive and the meaning of life was magnificent. I was holding a treasure soon to be disclosed. It brings a sense of security into my day to day life.

Who was this child that Christmas carols are sung for? I was captivated.

Throughout my childhood years, my story unraveled with greatness and sadness. Nonetheless there in my mind a manger scene with baby Jesus rested, bringing all my worries to a silence. Every Christmas my favorite event was lighting candles in church and singing Silent Night. The star on top of the tree sparkled with glee deeply into the very core of my being.

At eight, I needed someone bigger than life to be my Savior and forever be my best friend no matter what. It was then that I started to understand what resting in peace was all about. I began to realize that I was loved by a King.

I mattered.

Youthful years brought many tears while Christmas carols still rung in my ears bringing great comfort and joy. The beautiful carol, Joy To The World, brought me out of myself and lifted my eyes up to an amazing God who fearlessly loves all.

In my adult years, life has been messy from time to time. But by now I have lived through many Christmas and Easter Celebrations.

I celebrate that the Savior of the world looks upon me day and night. I belong to the creator of the World. The Hero of my story is Jesus. Amazing Grace How Sweet The Sound is music to my ears when Satan screams you are no good and mom guilt floods my mind. The cross changed the way I view myself.

I’m white as snow.

It is well with my soul.

My journey today as a Mom, is filled with trial and concerns, yet I will not fret. I feel that my greatest Christmas gift I can give to my children is the story of Jesus. He is our love story after all.

What shall we fear when God is always near and fighting for us. If God is for us, who can be against us?

Nothing can separate us from the love of God.

I want my children to know that in this world of toil and snare we have a King who is above all kings.

Jesus rules and we are safe in His loving arms. With this realization our love for the world will shine.

“This little light of mine, I am going to let it shine, let it shine, let it shine, let it shine. Hide it under a bushel, no; I am going to let it shine…… Don’t let Satan blow it out; I am going to let it shine……”

Let us light our Christmas trees and burn our candles as a reminder that with Jesus we can have peace within ourselves and in our homes.
