From the moment their born, children begin accepting things as being “normal” because they’ve never experienced the world before. Having books around and making a habit out of reading to them and around them will show them how reading is an important and regular part of everyday life.

We haven’t really been working on his reading or writing skills. We read a book every night, but he isn’t sounding out any words yet and I think that’s pretty normal. However, my son does love telling me stories and so I really appreciate the tip about recording stories. I hope that by recording his stories that he will show more of an interest in reading and writing so that we can start working on it before he starts school.
