Welcome back! Did you already get started here?

Autumn songs for infants, toddlers and preschoolers from The Stay-at-Home-Mom Survival Guide

(This post contains affiliate links. For more information, please see my disclosure.)

Children learn so much from singing songs and saying chants. I created a songs and chants resource binder to store away all the little songs I used while teaching so I could reference them during each season or unit of study. Here I have a few new autumn or fall songs for kids to fit perfectly with this time of year. Included are pictures of a few felt board activities that are so simple to help toddlers and preschoolers learn the counting objectives in each autumn song.

Fall leaves felt board activity for kids

Four Fall Leaves
(Sung to the tune of “This Old Man”)
Four fall leaves up in the tree,
Two for you and two for me.
The wind will blow. Watch them fall.
One, two, three, four-fall to the ground.
(As you count with the last line of this song, pull a leaf off of the board and let it fall so when you say “fall to the ground,” all the leaves are on the ground.)

Counting pumpkins activity for kids on the felt board

Counting Pumpkins (or Fall Leaves)

(Sung to the tune of “Did You Ever See a Lassie?”)
Look at my [ten] pumpkins,
[Ten] pumpkins, [ten] pumpkins,
Look at my [ten] pumpkins,

Oops, one rolls away!Pull one pumpkin off the board, count the rest, and sing again.

*If not using the felt board, hold up all ten fingers and wiggle as you sing. Put one finger down when one rolls away, then count how many fingers are left and sing replacing that number.
**If using the felt board, you can use pumpkin cutouts or leaf cutouts replacing the words accordingly.

Five Little Pumpkins
(Chant)

Five little pumpkins in a country store.
One rolled away and then there were four.
Four little pumpkins growing near a tree.
One rolled away and then there were three.
Three little pumpkins sitting next to you.
One rolled away and then there were two.
Two little pumpkins outside in the sun.
One rolled away and then there was one.
One little pumpkin who felt all alone.
He rolled away and then there were none.

Fall Leaves Falling
(Sung to the tune of “Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star”)
(Reach up with both hands to the sky and wave arms slowly)
Fall leaves falling all around
Fall leaves red and fall leaves brown.
(Point to head and toes)
Fall leaves on my head and toes.
(Reach with one arm up)
Reach for a leaf.
(Bring arm down and point to ground)
Down it goes.
(Reach up with both hands and wave arms)
Fall leaves falling all around.
(Slowly bring arms down and sit body on the ground or crouch down)
Fall leaves falling to the ground.
*This is a great song to do before a reading time or quiet time.

This is how I display our fridge felt board as an invitation to play in our kitchen. It utilizes the front of the fridge and allows my toddler to be with me but entertained while I am cooking-when I have to do part of the prep on my own.

For all of these activities with the felt board, I modified simple foam shapes I found in the dollar aisle at Target. I placed a piece of hook side velcro tape on the back of each leaf and pumpkin and then they stick very well to the felt. If you do not want to purchase foam, use construction paper or scrap fabric to make your leaves and pumpkins.

Just a one day get away and I feel recharged.

I can’t tell you how much being accepted in to this group of women has meant to me, but being welcomed encourages me to be grateful for each of them.

Although my vertigo kept me from the zipline, I loved whitewater rafting more than I even thought. It was the perfect mix of structure and unknown. It was fun!

Now after a mom’s weekend away, I feel so refreshed and appreciative to be back at home with my favorite people of all. #homeschoollife

Take the trip. Embrace the people who pursue you. Accept the invites. Love people. It is the best life.

This guy reads at least one book every two days. This guy reads at least one book every two days.

Last week, he read 2 full books in one day!

If I was willing, my kids would go to the library every other day with as fast as they read books. I love it!

I love that they read until “too late” at night and get excited about new books to read. It is a blessing to have your kids begging for a trip to the library multiple times a week. 📚💗😄

Are your kids avid readers or do they need some motivation to open a book on their free time?

I don’t spend a lot on decor. Most of it we have had for 5-10 years now. I tend to use what I have until it wears right out. The simple changes freshen things right up.

Spring is coming!

Do you change up some decor for the seasons? Any signs of spring where you live?

Within a few minutes of skimming this one book I found at least a few weeks’ worth of learning activities for our unit on the middle ages. Best part is they are hands-on, cover all subjects and it was free!

It is not expensive to homeschool or supplement your child’s learning at home. I am loving what we are learning now.

I spotted her just looking at our little seedlings. The peace of doing with our hands what we have learned with our mind is so satisfying.

Tomorrow we can plant our first seeds in the outdoor garden beds. I am so excited for the simple task.

Today’s schooling looked a bit like this. 💕 L Today’s schooling looked a bit like this. 💕 Library, reading, painting the toy that came in the kids meal, reading time, and calm.

When I think about my homeschool style (aka structure) it has definitely evolved over the years. I never really researched a style until today actually. 😂 What I found was, we started as Traditional - workbook-based learning. Then I added Unit Studies to our Traditional structure. Now we naturally have shifted to a more Charlotte Mason + Unit Study approach for some subjects and Traditional approach for a few subjects (math most specifically).

Flexibility keeps our interest. Plus learning never stops.

Today our day began with a visit to our library. When we got home the kids all found a spot and were so quietly reading I did not want to shift gears! So I didn’t.

There was reading, eating, drawing, painting, and so much quiet you guys I just had to let the kids go with this. My brain was soaking in the peacefulness.

When I started homeschooling, I would have never thought that a day like this would make me feel successful. It feels so good to have reached this point.

When days happen like today, it feels pretty much like magic.

What is your style if you homeschool? If not, what style would most appeal to your family?

You know what’s funny? I took this pic not even You know what’s funny? I took this pic not even noticing what random things were out of place. 😅 Perfect for this post today. 👇

Motherhood is a juggling act. We try to seek balance and be joyful, but kids, husband, house, our needs and wants all pull us in different directions.

We worry that if we drop one ball they all will come crashing down! We are busy, yet not feeling productive many days. The line between needs and wants become blurred.

Attempting to keep it all organized is overwhelming.

We tend to define balance with images in magazines, snapshots of other moms who are
having a together day when we are not, or elaborate spring cleaning tasks that sound great and get pinned but ultimately leave us feeling even deeper in frustration when we do not complete them.

*****
Balance is not a place where you go and never ever again feel a bump in the road.

Balance is an on-going, always changing, never finished job.

*****

If you feel out of balance today, you are just in the process of working your way back to it.

If today was a great day, prepare yourself now because the scale may tilt and things may feel out of your control tomorrow. #reallife

It is not easy to cut things from our calendars or limit our focus each day. I feel that struggle so much. My whole family needs and deserves my time and attention. I am constantly in a state of re-balance, and making attempts to re-organize, as I attempt to balance four children and a husband.

That requires a lot of humility, prayers for God’s peace in my life, and relieving myself of any guilt for not doing it all every day.

Do you see the items out of place in this pic or are you focused on the beauty within it? 😉💕

#AD Today was hard! School took longer than expect #AD Today was hard! School took longer than expected, grocery shopping got pushed back, and I am soaking up my time to get quiet and pray it all away.

I have discovered simple, quick ways to feel refreshed staying at home. With four kids, homeschooling and military life I can not just get a break when I feel I need it.

These ideas have helped me feel rejuvenated in small moments even when I can not get out of the house to have a break.

One of the simplest ways to recharge is with a good old hot shower. I think it pretty much cures mom overwhelm and stress. I always planned my showers around the kids’ quiet times. That way I could take my time.

Choosing hair care products that are really special make it even better. @hairmayraki has natural repairing shampoos, hair growth kits and weightless moisture shampoo that feeds moisture into your hair so it feels and looks amazing even if you have to air dry!

**Use code JAIMI20 to save 20% on your Mayraki hair care products!**

As we get older our hormones shift, so hair loss can be a problem. Just like after having a baby!

Using Mayraki Hair growth and anti hair loss products helps me maintain full, healthy hair. It smells so nice and makes my hair feel moisturized and completely clean.

I put together a helpful list of ways to help us moms feel refreshed.

They are simple actions we can take to care for ourselves each day. I even have some ideas from my friends here on Instagram too!

I made sure to go to her room after things cooled down (where she was sent for her behavior) and ask why, talk about my reason why, and then she decided to come down and eat her dinner. (The whole issue was that dinner included a green vegetable...😅😂)

Everything returned to contentment. We all smiled. This is real life and real parenting. Our emotions clashed but calm logic brought things back in focus.

Today we can laugh and be silly thinking about it.

What is the most recent heated or challenging moment you’ve experienced with your kids lately? Did things get resolved?
