It helps baby spend more time on tummy time and encourages visual development. This is a one item, one step activity.

Tummy Time Tips for Babies

If your infant does not like tummy time, try holding her facing away from you and looking towards the towel. Even holding a baby upright causes her neck and back to strengthen, so don’t stress if your baby is not staying on his/her tummy for the recommended time. Each infant is different just as each child is different.

Infants are able to see colors well by about 5 months of age, so a brightly colored towel is great for engaging a baby and encouraging further visual development. Since babies less than 4 months of age still can not focus on objects farther than 8 to 10 inches away, being close to images on the beach towel is appropriate for even the youngest infants. This activity can benefit babies from birth to 6 or 7 months old.

Another great sensory activity for babies – and toddlers too – is making sensory bags. Mimosas and Motherhood shares how to make sensory bags for babies.
