Family Challenge: Collect Box Tops for Your School {Free Printable}

Teaching my children to give back to their community in ways that are appropriate for their ages is important. We pick up trash in our neighborhood, we participate in food drives, and we collect Box Tops™ to donate to my son’s school. The Box Tops program is such an easy way to help our school earn cash, but we wanted to add some fun to our collection this year. We are getting the grandparents involved even though they are many miles away!

To help our school as much as we can by donating General Mills® Box Tops for Education™, my children and I thought up a fun family challenge. We wrote a letter together to get the grandparents involved in collecting Box Tops for our school too. We have a free printable for you too!

I told you how my son’s school has a fun incentive to encourage the kids to donate Box Tops, and we just knew that our extended family would be up for helping us out. We are excited to see how many Box Tops we can give to our school this school year! After all, we can only eat so much of our favorite General Mills cereals and snacks to collect Box Tops on our own!

I thought this would be a great activity to teach some typing, incorporate writing and spelling, and even learn how to compose a letter. First, my 7 year old began trying to type out the letter on our computer. I helped him by writing some words on paper as a guide. He typed most of the letter, and then I added in a bit at the end of the letter. It was a group effort!

We asked our family to help us collect as many Box Tops as possible by checking their cupboards for General Mills® products that may have the Box Tops for Education label. We mentioned that WalMart has a Bonus Box Tops™ offer on select items, so we can all keep an eye out for those to collect even more Box Tops!

If you want to try this family challenge, you can download the Box Tops Family Challenge Letter and personalize it. We left a few areas blank so you can personalize the letter by writing who the letter is being sent to and your child can sign it at the end. After he signed his letters, I involved my son in addressing the envelope so he could see what information is included. I know we could send email or text messages, but it is still nice to teach children how to write a good old fashioned letter.

We often send paintings or other artwork to the grandparents, so we know they like receiving mail from the kids. This is a fun way to include the grandparents in what is going on in our lives even though we live on the opposite side of the country from them due to the military lifestyle.

We really encourage our kids to stay connected to their extended family considering the limited amounts of time we get to see the grandparents each year. This is another way we can cross the miles between us and stay connected. Plus, my son will feel pretty important when he receives some Box Tops labels from his grandparents to take to school!
