I would be terribly forgetful if I did not mention one phenomenal half of the whole picture on being a stay-at-home mom: the working husband!  How in the world could we do what we do without their sacrifice? I sometimes envy my husband leaving for work every day, although not the hour that he wakes up, or the drive from here to there and back. He has so much on his shoulders. I try to put myself in his shoes and really think about what that role entails.

One income…dun, dun, dun!

Being the husband of a stay-at-home mom

Every day my husband goes to work.  Our financial stability falls on his shoulders, although we try to balance it as I am the one who manages the money after it gets into our hands. We work as a team.

If I were the one our financial livelihoods fell on, I would be a very stressed out person. Somehow, my husband balances that. He has said he prefers being the one to work versus staying home. I respect his sacrifice having to be the one to wake up every day and leave us to go do his job.  He has to be away from our children the majority of the day while I get to see them all day.

I tend to get wrapped up in my own frustration of tantrums, whining, spit up, diapers, meals, etc. and lay it all on him when he gets home venting about my day as the stay-at-home mom. In fairness, I ask him how his day was as well so that we each get our time to share.

He has stress dealing with work just as I do. It would not be different if I were working, the stress would just have a different starting point, and there would probably be more of it!

Remember that you may be getting pooped on literally, but he is also getting pooped on, figuratively. And, without his income your job as a stay-at-home mom would not be possible…well, unless you are the Rockefellers or the Kennedys.

Celebrate his work for the family outside of the home. Without husbands willing to take on that burden, there would be no stay-at-home moms.
